Dear Everyone -
On Wed. when I visited dad he was so drugged he could barely respond, and slept most of my visit.... which was better than my being accused of a boy friend. Then on Thurs. he was ok. The nurse said it would take a few days for that new med. to work it's way thru his body, so he wouldn't be so groggy. Then another nurse said they give him darvoset for pain, but she and I don't think he has pain. I think the night nurse likes him zonked out so he won't be bothered during his shift. With the saraquil he doesn't need more.

He thinks he is in the temple and needs a white shirt on. Wed. he kept trying to pull off his T shirt and jacket to put on a white shirt. Thurs. they had given him a white pillow case, and he was trying to pull off his shirt and put that on. Then in just a split second he laughed
and said "They think this is a white shirt, but it's a pillow case." Then he was gone into his little world again. It was really strange. On Thurs he was much happier, laughed and talked. I couldn't understand much of what he was saying, but at least he was happy. He kept yelling out the door "Russ, Kay." Both of you had been there playing - as little kids.

Shelby put up my Xmas tree yesterday. Next week she will help me with stuffing the bags for the grandkids. For you who will be mailing pkgs to your out-of-state families I will have them ready.

Alene - will you be sending to Mich, Ga, and Boise?
Carla - you will be sending to Calif, right?
Claire - Ohio, right?
Laurette - Arizona?
Russ - Calif and Canada?
Kay - ?
Jeri - Mich?

If you don't want to mail my things, then I will just send them the $5 in a card. Let me know.

The kids party is Dec 18th, (yipe, that's only 3 wks away) 11: to 2:00, but we are usually out of there by 1:30. Kay, are you in charge of food, again? I have table cloths.

Dear Everyone -
Last night was interesting. Carla. Jeff. and I met Doug and Lori, with her three, at Arctic Circle, had supper, then went to visit dad. He was grumpy. No, he was GRUMPY!!! He kept saying "Shut up, show some respect." I asked who are we respecting, and he said there was a program out in the hall. We had to be quiet. He kept trying to get out of his chair and we kept telling him he can't get out of his chair, and he kept telling us to shut up, he would get out if he wanted. The little kids decorated a tree that Lori brought, and he kept telling us to shut up. They weren't being noisy, but he was agitated anyway. I thought this was going to be great, cuz Clair, Tom, James and family were coming. When they got there he said hello, then fell asleep. Claire served birthday cake (her's), showed us her gifts, then we (the Hollists) left. On the way home Claire called to say when dad woke up he was as sweet as pie. He talked with the little kids and was very pleasant.

Carla and I have decided that we just bring out the worst in him. I asked the nurse if the dr had okayed the meds Lori and Luke recommended and she said yes, that they were giving him Seraquil, but it would take a few days to get into his system and we would see a difference. It will relieve his night terrors and his agitation..... we hope.

Russ and I went Mon. and he told Russ to leave the room, he had to talk to me privately. Russ said he'd be back in 5 min, I told him to make it 3 min. Then dad said "What I have to say will make you mad." and he kept saying that over and over, and finally I said "Yes, it will make me mad if you accuse me of having a boy friend." And he said "See, I knew you would get mad." He finally named a boy friend -Merritt Nielsen! Wanda died a couple of years ago, so this "single man" must have been on dad's mind for awhile. At least it wasn't Karl Hutchinson. He used to accuse me of him a few years ago. He told Russ he wants to buy a truck so he can go where he wants to. Russ said he'd look for one.

Thanksgiving

Dear Everyone -
I just left dad. He seem much better today. He asked if I had gone to church, I told him it was Friday. He asked the man next to him if he went to Rotary today. He said he and two attendants went for a walk outside today. I don't know if that's true or not.

I talked with the social worker. I was worried that he might freak out again if we took him to one of the homes for Thanksgiving Dinner, then brought him back and dumped him. She said that could be a real possibility for a tramatic happening. Big crowds seem to upset him,
too. Therefore, since there will be only 5 or 6 Wilcoxs, we are going to take dinner down to dad. I have reserved the conference room from 1:00 to 3:00.

After our "last" clear out of the house: Jeff went to see dad while we were at the house. Dad wanted Jeff to get him out of there. Jeff tried to get him on other subjects, but it didn't do much good.

Dear Everyone-
We had a nice trip to see the Calif Jansens. One day we went to Sutters Mill - the kids panned for gold and got some - just little flakes that they put in a very tiny bottles of water. They were happy with the fools gold, so some of that got in the bottles too.
Last evening I watched Ch 9 about the Calif gold rush, and after seeing Sutters Mill, I could better appreciate what I was seeing on TV.
Sharon goes in Fri for a hysterectomy. She is not happy about getting someone elses blood, but the dr said her own blood wasn't good enough to take before the surgery, and it would take months to build her own blood up if they took it.
I have been getting dozens of calls from a nut. He would just hand up, then when I saw his name on the caller ID, I would answer "You have the wrong number." He'd apologize, then it would happen again. I asked why he kept calling my number and he said he was trying to call his brother that was on number off mine, that he has ADD and didn't take his retard medicine and he was really sorry. Finally I called the phone co and got "caller reject." I didn't get it on before we went to Calif, and when we got back he had called 8 times from his number and once from another number, so I put both numbers on "reject. It will be worth the $4.50/mo.
Alene, Steph, Jess, and Shelly had a girls-day-out, and went to Hale Theater To Kill a Mocking Bird. And she and Steph went wedding gown shopping. One place had about 1000 but only about 20 were temple appropriate. Don't those dummies know they are missing a big market in Utah?
Russ said to tell Alene that Starbucks has branched out. They have two or three chocolate non-coffee drinks. And about Carla taking Bear to McD's when they get to Ohio, the Golden Corral would be cheaper.
Jeri heard from Bear and he is burned out! He has been AP for 7 mo, and has 3 to go. They had a big meeting to be reassigned, the pres came in, opened the meeting, turned it over to Bear, and left, so Bear had to make the assignments.
Mel met Laurette in Boston and showed her around. I haven't heard from L. to see how her conference went.
Matt had an appt with a woman, and when they got there, 20 of her relatives were there. They taught the message of the restoration, then LaVonne took over and read from the B of M. Said she had been going to church for 50 years, and had never heard of the B of M, and said "Why aren't our pastors teaching of this? Could it be because it would change their doctrine?" Then she turned to Matt and comp and said "I want to be baptized."
I can't remember if I told you we went to Brigham City to see Harriet. Carla and Jeff drove us, and we stopped at Maddox on the way up. Yummm. When we walked in Harriet looked surprised, then she recognized us, I think. Then she looked at Dad and said "You sure look like my brother."
She seemed lucid one minute then out of it the next. She can't get out of bed alone, can't stand alone, can sit in a chair if you put her there, so JC tells us she needs a place with more security!!! The social worker came in and introduced himself. Said he hasn't met her son, yet.
Doug has a one week job, surveying out on the Nevada desert. Carla went to visit Lori and family. When climbed in the car to come home Livy had a fit. Carla was sick last week, so when Livy called she excitedly said "Hi- grandma" and then this hoarse croaky voice answered it scared Livy, so she wouldn't talk anymore.
Danny Dksn talked to Ted and said he may be interested in going to Ohio St next year (not this coming year) for an MBA.

Dear Everyone -
This will be a short letter as we are getting ready to go to California tomorrow. Re: last week's letter - I forgot to add Ted to the list of graduates. Sorry, Ted. Scott got the official notice that Venezuela mission is closed! No more visas, and I don't know about the miss.s already there, if they get to use up their visa time, or will be sent home. Matt's date is July 20, and he will speak in their old ward July 24th.
Bear's date is Aug 26, and we will let you know the date for his speech. Nate's date is Oct, sometime. Steph is officially engaged, wedding date is Sept 10th. Claire called to say Tom has Diabetes!!! - and he was eating a pop cycle at the time. Alene, she needs info and ideas.
I gave my DUP lesson last evening. It was on the Mormon settlements in Idaho. A guy named Richard Leigh (nicknamed Beaver Dick by Brigham Young cuz he had protruding teeth and cuz he was so good at trapping Beavers) married an Indian girl named Jenny. They had 6 children. They caught small pox and all except Dick died within 10 days. It was the dead of winter, so he couldn't bury them because of the frozen ground, so he dug a grave in the dirt floor of the cabin, buried them, then burned the cabin down. Later at age 50 he married a 14 yr old Indian girl named Susan Tadpole and had 3 more children. If you have been to Jackson Hole, you probably saw Jenny Lake. It was named for her. Will be more newsy next week. We will be home Tues. Love, Mom

Dear Everyone:
Alene, Laurette, Carla, Jan, and Michele are taking a quilting class and persuaded me to go too. It was all very interesting, but I know my limitations, and I would never be able to do what they are teaching. But it was fun to be with them for awhile. Because it was the Priesthood session Saturday evening, I went out to dinner with Carla, Jan, and Michele, while the guys went to conference.
Last week dad and I went to Jeri's Stake Play at the Conference Center in Bountiful. It was really good. Haley and Rachel were in the children's chorus, and Haley had a one-line solo and did very well.
A week ago, we have a Non-Easter Egg Hunt - no little kids to hunt them. All the daughters except Claire came, and Jeri's kids and Jeni and Brooke. Then that evening Claire and family went out to dinner for Tom's
birthday, and then came to my house for ice cream and cake. Danny brought Sierra, then he had to come back on Monday and have knee surgery for the 3rd time. Bear, your miss. pres is in Sierra's ward in Ohio.
Our Governor signed a bill that every new born baby in Utah will be tested for 37 different metabolic problems. Laurette and Kurt were on that panel. All they will do is take a drop or two of blood, put it on a machine, and it will tell if the child will have PKU, or Cystic Fibroses, etc. They believe a lot of SIDs deaths are actually from diseases that hadn't been detected. Laurette said other members of the panel were doctors and scientists with lots of letter behind their names and there she was with only "Mom" behind her name. But she was very knowledgeable because of Jeron's PKU, so contributed more than the many lettered guys.
Jeni stopped by on her way from USU to an interview in SLC with Mrs Field's Cookies. She has had several other interviews, and will work a quarter in someplace in Food Science capacity as part of her schooling.
Jeff is still on crutches from falling on his knee. He comes home each day from school really hurting. He is black and blue clear down including his toes.
There are some brave thieves around here. They broke into the Civic Committee's House (that old house that used to the elder Brough's by the city building) and stole a bunch of stuff, but not our Carla.
We're still good for next New Year's Eve. That house is about 20 feet across the driveway from the police station!!!
A couple of Saturdays ago I went to the Stake Rel Soc Humitarian doodad.
My job was packing baby blankets, a gown, 4 diapers, 4 pins, 2 bars of soap, and 2 pair of sox into a plastic bag. They have told us that some people are so poor that their babies are wrapped in newspaper, so I kept thinking as I worked "No newspaper for this baby." I don't know how many I packed, but I bet is was close to 50, and there were 8 or 10 others doing the same thing on my table.
